Podiatry Department (NHS Western Isles)

Podiatry is a specific branch of medicine which involves the care, diagnosis and preventative treatment of foot and lower limb problems. The Podiatry Department based at the Western Isles Hospital offers a comprehensive service which covers a range of treatments.

The Podiatry Department also assesses all patients newly diagnosed with Diabetes. This involves screening for risks of non-healing foot wounds, then if required appropriate care is arranged.

There are several ways of accessing the Podiatry Service.

These are:


  • patients can refer themselves to the Podiatry Service simply by phoning the department and requesting a self referral form.

  • with the patient’s permission, a relative, carer or health professional can complete a referral form on their behalf.

  • make a GP appointment and request a referral to Podiatry.

For patients who are house bound and unable to attend due to severe mobility problems or chronic ill health which affects mobility, the Podiatry Department offers Home Visits. To access this service please contact your Podiatry Department for a self referral form.
